ART MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The Art Mentorship Program is designed for creative individuals in our community to receive the benefit of consistent and customized one-on-one mentorships with professional artists culminating with an art exhibition and artist lecture for program participants to share their personal artistic vision with their Yuba Sutter communities.
With support from Yuba Sutter Arts and the California Arts Council, Painting and Sculpture Outpost created the art mentorship program as an extension of the work we do collaboratively as artists and educators. We believe every artist should have opportunities and support to meet their creative goals and grow in their craft. We think this is especially important for folks in rural communities like ours where there are few opportunities for artistic development.
WHO CAN APPLY
This program is for anyone who is serious about art. Artists should be at least 16 years old, love being creative, and have had some experience working in their art form. We are looking for folks who are interested in exploring the potential of a career in the arts in some capacity. There is no age limit!
HOW IT WORKS
The Art Mentorship Program involves making a commitment to invest time and energy in your art consistently from August 2020 through June 2021. Mentors and mentees will meet monthly for one-on-one sessions for the duration of the program. These meetings will be custom tailored to you and your needs and goals, generally including things such as:
>feedback on your artwork
>time to define and develop your point of view as an artist
>help to create your portfolio
>learn how to write an artist statement, format your art resume, and other creative business skills
>information on art business topics, exhibition opportunities, and career choices
>goal setting and more
In addition, the mentorship program participants will meet together monthly for a critique to discuss their artwork critically in a safe and supportive environment. The Art Mentorship Program experience will culminate in an Art Exhibition and Artist Talk at Yuba Sutter Arts in 2021.
HOW TO APPLY
Artists who are interested in participating in the Arts Mentorship Program should fill out an online application. Part of this application includes providing a sample of your artwork and answering a few questions. The online application closes on July 10th.
Applicants that seem like a good fit to benefit from the program will be contacted for an interview. Folks who are selected to be a part of the mentorship program will be notified by the end of July and mentorships begin in August.
All applications that meet the application requirements will be considered for the limited art mentorship program spaces.
PROGRAM COST
The Painting & Sculpture Outpost Art Mentorship Program is free for applicants who are awarded a mentorship. There is no fee to submit your application.
The operating costs of the mentorship program have been generously provided by with support from Yuba Sutter Arts and an Artist in Communities Grant from the California Arts Council. If you would like to support the arts in our community, consider making a donation to the Art Mentorship Program sponsors, who make life changing art experiences like this possible.
